Privacy Policy
This page explains what personal data Hickory Joe's Smokehouse collects when you use this website, how we use it, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Maltese Data Protection Act.
1. Who we are
"We", "us" and "Hickory Joe's" refer to Hickory Joe's Smokehouse, a restaurant operating from three locations in Malta and Gozo. For data-protection questions, contact us at hello@hickory-joes.com.
2. What we collect
- Order details — name, phone number, email (optional), delivery address and notes you enter at checkout.
- Cart state — items you add are stored in your browser's
localStorage(key:hj_cart_v1) so they persist between visits. Nothing leaves your device until you press "Send Order". - Technical data — when you load the site, your browser shares its IP address, user agent and referring URL with our hosting provider (Cloudflare). We do not store this ourselves.
3. How we use it
- To fulfil and deliver your order (the order details are sent to our team via WhatsApp when you press "Send Order").
- To contact you about your order if needed.
- To improve our menu and service — we may review aggregate, anonymised order data.
4. Sharing
We do not sell your data. We share order data only with: (a) the WhatsApp account of our restaurant team (operated by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited), (b) our delivery driver when applicable, and (c) tax authorities if legally required.
5. Cookies and analytics
This site does not set tracking cookies or run third-party analytics at present. If we add analytics in the future, this page will be updated and a consent banner will appear.
6. Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict our use of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with the Information and Data Protection Commissioner. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@hickory-joes.com.
7. Retention
Order data sent through WhatsApp is retained in that conversation for as long as Meta's policies require. We do not store order data on this website's servers.
8. Changes
If we update this policy we'll publish the new version here with a fresh "Last updated" date.
